Hello, I’m Lydia

one of the kitchen companions

I have seen first hand how companionship allows someone to continue to live in their own home.

When you continuously visit the same people you get into a great rhythm, you don’t have to think about how to get places or where things are when you’re there. It has meant I am able to be present and give the people I visit that precious connection time. I always learn new things and it means I can really pay attention and notice anything that might have changed, if they are more introspective or not so well. It could be easy to miss those all-important signs, instead I have found I notice more not less.

We are often accompanying someone who is going through some kind of change or transition in their lives and they may be feeling vulnerable or struggling. Our companionship allows them to really share how they feel, what they are facing and what is going on for them.

Fundamentally, I have seen how most of us take for granted our ability to have a warm meal and good company. For those who have lost that ability for themselves, meeting that need and witnessing the positive impact it has on a person’s life has been profound.

Take care

Lydia
